ATLStat FY2009 Annual Report

The performance management initiative at the City of Atlanta has several goals:

  • Information: Develop a definite source of information on the City’s Operating performance and provide periodic operating statistics to Mayor/COO that convey “state of the city”
  • Management: Create a performance culture through a management tool that increases accountability in senior management while improving efficiency, productivity and performance
  • Transparency: creates a public window into the performance of city services and operations

To achieve these goals, the ATLStat program was created to perform three critical functions:

  1. Serves as a central clearinghouse for all of the operating data of the City
  2. Provides performance targets against which we evaluate the effectiveness of our departments
  3. Creates a forum for identifying and solving performance related issues

Through this process, the ATLStat team works with each department to develop meaningful measures and targets, collect and store data within the performance management tool. On a regular basis, the ATLStat team also engages each department in reviewing and discussing performance trends, and tracking and reporting on the progress of the action plans resulted from the weekly ATLStat performance review sessions.
