ATLStat uses the Measure, Manage and Motivate approach to improve operating performance for the City of Atlanta, where we measure efficiency and effectiveness for critical tasks, manage the performance against targets, motivate managers to make adjustments based on the information.
ATLStat sessions are held on a weekly basis, during which the City’s senior management team reviews the performance of the City’s departments and identifies performance issues. If performance targets are not being met, ATLStat team, the department and the senior management team collaborate to develop solutions. This team-based approach to problem solving has been extremely effective in moving our City forward.
During this process, the ATLStat team works closely with each department to:
- Identify key tactical performance measures that support Departmental strategic objectives
- Create business processes to collect performance data that is accurate and timely
- Develop performance targets based on best practices benchmarks and key strategic objectives
- Use progress against performance measures to drive operational improvements
- Use progress against performance measures to drive strategic budget decisions
